If you are anything like me, your skin isn’t perfect. I mean, no human being’s skin is. That’s why we use skincare, healthy habits, and even makeup to cover up any unwanted imperfections like dark spots. Having an even skin tone is the goal, but when dark spots are in the way it becomes a challenge to achieve that.
Below are all the best tips and tricks to hide dark spots and skin discoloration for your dream flawless-looking skin.
How To Hide Dark Spots
1. Use A Color Corrector
Using color correctors is great because they neutralize dark spots. If you have fair to light-medium skin, a yellow or peach color corrector will help cancel out dark spots. If you have a medium to deep skin tone, an orange color corrector will help to hide dark spots like dark circles or sun spots.
Just dab a small amount on the dark spot prior to applying concealer over it to disguise those dark spots that are difficult to cover.
2. Apply Concealer
The no-brainer method is to use concealer. After all, that’s what concealer was created for. To hide unwanted marks, blemishes, or other imperfections. Because the formula of a concealer is generally thicker, it provides more pigment to hide and lighten dark spots.
If you desire more coverage out of your concealer, apply it and blend it out with your fingers or a dense brush. If you don’t need too much coverage, you can quickly and easily blend it out with a makeup sponge.
3. Use Powder
Applying powder is usually the finishing touch to your makeup look. It brings everything together and helps smooth out uneven texture, but it can also add more coverage depending on the powder you use. Skip the translucent powder and use a setting powder that has pigment and is closest to your skin tone.
Apply a light layer with a fluffy powder brush or powder puff and tap the powder to the areas you need more coverage like your under eyes because it will help to further disguise dark circles.
4. Less Is More
Every time you apply makeup to cover cover imperfections less is always more. The more layers of makeup you apply, the more caked your makeup will look and you will experience more creasing and separating.
When you apply products like foundation, color corrector, concealer, and powder, apply each in a thin layer so that your age spots or dark spots will be covered flawlessly. Most professional makeup artists go lighter on the layers. There’s no need for various layers of each because they will do their job when applied in fewer layers.
5. Take Care Of Your Skin
Taking care of your skin is the ultimate way to hide dark spots or not even have to worry about hiding them at all. Having healthy habits for your skin will prevent dark spots from appearing in the first place.
Always exfoliate 2-3 times per week to get rid of dead skin cells. Getting rid of dead skin cells will reveal new fresh skin underneath and lessen the look of dark areas. Also, be mindful of how much sun exposure you are exposing your skin to. Allowing your skin to soak in the sun for too long can cause dark spots. If you are going to be in the sun for prolonged periods of time, wear sunscreen, or a hat for sun protection purposes.
