All these questions start to run through mind like, “How many outfits do I bring?”, “What’s the weather going to be like?”, “Does all this stuff even fit?!” Trust me I get it! But one of the most important questions is “How do I fit all my beauty products in this darn quart sized bag?!” Of course you can check a bag in, but if you can relate, your beauty products are some of your prized possessions, and if your suitcase were to get lost (knock on wood), at least you can still look pretty =P
However, fret not ladies, because this post will give you the best tips and tricks to be sure you can fit everything you need for that next vacation!
Beauty Travel Kit Hacks
1. Beauty treatments are your friend
In times like these when you don’t have much space and want don’t want to pack everything and the kitchen skin, Getting beauty treatments are lifesavers! Instead of packing your mascara, get a lash tint/lift, or lash extensions. Another option would be to get your eyebrows microbladed instead of bringing brow products. Also a few months prior to your trip, you can do something like laser hair removal so you don’t have to worry about packing a razor. Even though razors don’t quality for the quart sized bag rule, it’s still one less thing you have to worry about.
2. Be innovative
Some of your makeup products are labeled as one thing, however they can serve a double purpose! For example, cream blushes can be used as a lip tint/lipstick. Blush colors are usually in the pink/red color family making them universally flattering on almost anyone as a lip color. If you love a bronzed look, powdered bronzer can be used as an eyeshadow, and highlighter can be used as an inner corner shade.
3. Protect fragile items
A lot of us are no strangers to buying a makeup item such as a powdered blush or bronzer, and one day it just magically slips out of your hands and boom! Disaster. When you open the compact, it’s all just a crumbled mess. Since traveling requires a lot of movement and bags being moved constantly, we need to protect our compacts. One great way to do that is to put a cotton pad inside the compact to cushion it. This prevents the makeup from shattering.
4. Use solids instead of liquids
If you’re taking your items in a carry on, it’s best to worry about as little liquids as possible. The 3-1-1 rule can be frustrating while packing, so use solids instead. Instead of bringing a cleansing oil, pack a cleansing balm. Cleansing balms are just as effective as cleansing oils. Also, in place of shampoo, you can actually try bringing a shampoo bar. Shampoo bars are becoming widely popular now! Because they produce zero waste, they are a great option for you to pack instead of shampoo in a bottle.
5. Travel sized all the way
Almost every liquid that you bring should be travel sized. Products like shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer etc. can be decanted into leakproof travel bottles. Not only that, but items like toothpaste and deodorant can be bought travel-sized. This will provide so much more space in your luggage to pack other important necessities, or allow you to be a bit more minimal.
6. Minimize beauty tools
I know when it comes to doing your makeup, a lot of tools can be involved. From all different kinds of face brushes, eye brushes, and sponges, it can take up quite a lot of space. However, you can definitely limit the amount you pack. Try bringing brushes that are double sided so they take up less room. Another option is to use your hands when you apply things like light foundation or cream products. Sometimes using your hand is better because the warmth from your hands melts the product into your skin beautifully.
7. Fragrance tip
The reason we wear fragrance is to add that extra special touch to smell divine. Sometimes though, perfumes can be expensive and when it comes to travel, a lot of perfumes are packaged in glass bottles which we don’t want breaking. A great tip is instead of bringing your perfume, bring the lotion version! You have to bring lotion anyway to stay moisturized so why not bring your favorite fragranced lotion. you will still smell fantastic. Or if you must bring your perfume, decant some into a travel sized atomizer.
8. Create your own palette
Most makeup products are generally separated in their own containers. For example, blushes, bronzers, and eyeshadows have their own packaging. A great way to combine them is to get one of those magnetic empty palettes where you can remove the product from its original packaging and put them all in one palette. This is a good idea because having one palette is sleek and compact and you can fit it anywhere.
9. Hair mask tip
In theory, it seems like a good idea to do your hair the day prior or the day of going on vacation, however it isn’t the brightest idea. The awful dry air in the plane is the reason why. You get on the plane with luscious shiny hair and you get off with dry dull hair. It happens to the best of us. The best thing to do is bring your hair mask in packet form so you can bring back the shine and hydration on your trip. It’s better to bring it in packet form because you won’t have to worry about spillage or bulkiness from a hair mask tub and it’s light and small. Perfect for taking up less real estate.
10. Bring alcohol wipes
When you use any makeup brushes you brought with you, in one use they get really dirty and you should be cleaning them to get rid of the bacteria. Most people would clean them with a liquid brush cleaner or alcohol spray. However, a great idea is to bring alcohol wipes instead to quickly disinfect your brushes instead of having to worry about your liquid limit. Then when you get home, you can deep clean your brushes.
11. Get the right quart sized bag
There are tons and I mean tons of quart sized liquid travel bags on the market. Sometimes you look at them and think, “How am I supposed to fit all my essential liquids in here?” I know, most look really small, however not all are created equal. You have to get the right travel sized quart bag to make the most out of the space. At the airport if you dont have a quart sized bag, the give you a plastic sandwich bag. Or a lot of other bags you might find are shaped to not fit much. This is the best one here! I swear by it! You can fit a ton of travel sized liquids and still get away with it because it’s still a quart sized bag. Trust me you will love it!
