Your hands are a crucial step to take care of in your self care routine because if they can give away your true age or make you look older if overlooked. Just like you pamper yourself everywhere else, they need love too. The good news is, you can prevent and fight off signs of aging on your hands. Below are some tips and tricks to get you the ageless hands you were meant to have!
1. Wear Gloves
Anytime you are washing the dishes, cleaning your house, or gardening, keep your hands protected by wearing gloves. A lot of the times, the cleaning products that most people use contain harsh chemicals that are damaging to the skin so it’s best to not have direct contact with those chemicals.
2. Use Mild Soaps
When you wash your hands or take a shower, a lot of soaps on the market have manufactured chemicals and filled with surfactants that can cause dryness and irritation especially on sensitive skin. Using a mild soap that is pH balanced will cleanse away any dirt or debris without the potential of causing any skin issues.
3. Exfoliate
When you are exfoliating your body, don’t forget your hands! Exfoliating your hands helps to shed off dark spots or hyperpigmentation issues. You can take a chemical exfoliator like a mandelic or glycolic acid and exfoliate your hands that way and it will remove the deal skin cells leaving you with fresher and clearer looking skin.
4. Use Retinol
Use a retinol to turn back the hands of time. Retinols are powerful at reducing fine lines and wrinkles and bring back a youthful appearance. They also help to get rid of age spots and it smooths and softens any texture on the skin. Because of retinols potency, start using it once a week and work your way up. If you see that you don’t get any irritation, you can bump up the amount of days you use it.
5. Put Your Skincare On Your Hands
When you do your facial skincare regimen, whatever is left over, put the rest on your hands. This will really help keep them younger and healthier looking because if you are using hydrating, correcting, or anti-aging products on your face, it will work on your hands as well!
6. Moisturize
Moisturizing your hands is crucial! When you moisturize, it reduces the chance of some skin problems like rough patches, cracking skin, and acne. It also helps to keep wrinkles at bay because moisturizing traps water into your skin making it appear more plump and it diminishes the lines and creases that make up wrinkles.
7. Apply Sunscreen
You should be getting into the habit of wearing sunscreen every. single. day. and also reapplying every 2 hours. It goes a long way at preventing your hands from looking wrinkly and discolored. Even when you are inside you should still be applying sunscreen because UV rays still penetrate through windows. Applying sunscreen is one of the best ways to prevent sun spot, age damage, or worse, skin cancer.
8. Drink Water
Drinking water has many benefits, so stay hydrated! It promotes tighter skin, faster healing, and improves your complexion. Not drinking enough water can make your skin lose its plumpness and it will look dehydrated. Our skin is the largest organ in our body and it’s mostly made up of water so without it, you will see your skin become dry and shriveled looking.
Taking care of your hands will not only help you look more youthful and healthy, but it will also keep your hygiene game on point. But most of all, they’ll never reveal your true age. 😉
