Great skin is not perfect skin. When I talk about great skin, I mean that it is looked after and not neglected. It means that it’s balanced and looks the healthiest it can be. The way you take care of yourself is what counts and as long as you feel confident in the way you look, it’s a win for everyone!
These tips and tricks will help you achieve the skin you’ve always dreamed of!
How To Get Great Skin
1. Sleep
Get your beauty sleep! Getting your beauty sleep can totally sound gimmicky but it’s actually one of the best things you can do to have great skin. So many people nowadays with their with their demanding jobs, or taking care of their children and household can easily miss out on sleep because sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything you planned to do. However, finding the time to sleep is crucial. While you are sleeping, your body is actually repairing itself, and when it repairs itself, it translates to having fewer wrinkles, brighter under eyes, and just an overall healthier and glowing complexion. 7-9 hours of well rested sleep will set you up for success. Never underestimate the power of a good nights rest!
2. Internal Nourishment
The food that you feed your body will always eventually start to show on your skin. I get it, junk food can be a lot more tasty than healthy meals but put it away! Don’t get me wrong, you can definitely have your chips or other snacks once in a while but it shouldn’t be a part of your daily routine. Junk food has no benefits whatsoever to your skin. It has quite the opposite. Since most of it is packed with fat and carbs, it can lead to acne and irritation. Stick to consuming foods that make you glow. Things like broccoli, avocados, berries, sweet potatoes, and salmon are just a few that are your best friends when it comes to healthy skin.
3. Remove Your Makeup
If having great skin is a goal or important to you, you shouldn’t care how how tired, drunk, or lazy you are. Remove that makeup always! When you first put on makeup, you’re excited because you just enhanced your features and it looks damn good. However as the day goes by and you’re traveling from point a to point b, the weather can start to break up your makeup. Things like rain, sweat, pollution, etc. can really affect your makeup. Sometimes if you are a pro at doing makeup, it may not look like anything has touched your face, however the bacteria will still always be there. You just can’t see it. Now imagine taking all of that dirt and grime and sleeping on it? There is no way your skin will thank you in the morning. Especially because sleeping is the time for skin to recover and it can’t properly do that if you have the prior days junk on your face. That’s why removing your makeup at the end of the day is so important.
4. Sleep On Silk
Believe me when I say once you go silk, you never go back. When talking in terms of skin, you can sleep in silk pajamas, silk sheets or a silk pillowcase. When you sleep on silk, not only do you feel luxurious, but it’s so good for your skin. It’s especially good when you put on your skincare because if you put on your skincare and sleep on a cotton pillowcase, the cotton actually soaks up the product and moisture whereas silk does not. Also because silk is frictionless, you won’t wake up with that temporary wrinkle or crease on your face. Your face will be much smoother in the morning. The same goes for the skin on your body. You won’t regret switching to silk! Also if silk is out of your budget, you can opt for satin and it gives the same effect.
5. Never Pick Your Skin
Never I mean NEVER pick your skin. More times than not it’s not a good idea. I get it, we all have some sort of small zit to even acne at some point in our skin journey, and it is so nice to get rid of it. Some might even find it satisfying, however every time you pop a pimple the surrounding area turns red or irritated and most likely will turn into an acne scar. Sometimes, I hate to say it but blood comes out and it turns into a scab. If you are struggling with pimples apply spot treatment or ice it in 60 second increments. You will thank yourself later for not picking your skin when your face has a significant less amount of irritation and scarring.
6. Stick To A Routine
When we want to solve any skin issues we may be experiencing, the first thing we do is try products that will make it better right? However, impatience takes over and when one product doesn’t work for a week, you set it aside and try something else. This is a no-no because you’re not allowing nearly enough time for a product to work. You should be giving a product a month to even a few months for it to actually deliver results. When you are constantly switching from product to product, it’s not doing much for you because you are not allowing ample time to do what it’s supposed to do. Skincare products are not magic wands where you can use it to “reparo” your problem area and everything is fixed in 1 day. Also, if you are constantly switching them out, it can be harsh on you skin. Patience is key.
